Gaffa tape instead of straplocks?

Yeah I like the gaffa look. On Fenders/Stingrays/etc. anyway, it would look pretty silly on my Warwick.

This is a nice comprimise if you dont fancy fitting straplocks (or dont like bottle washers an duct tape )

It totally works in punk bands on beat-up Fender/Musicman/Gibson semi-acoustic basses; it'd look sh*t on anything with a hint of figured wood or fancy finishing. Grolsch rubbers for those all the way...

Any bass I used on stage I'd just get a couple of washers and screw the strap to the body.

Years ago, bread used to come in poly bags with a plastic tag to seal it...they worked a treat, think I still have some in my bass case....

I sometimes use these, the strap still supports the weight, no changing strap pins needed and they're still secure.

Also easy to get on/off and you don't need to do anything to the strap.

I use the red rubber rings. Excellent...almost perfect fit! No drilling required.

I must be doing something wrong because I don't have any problems with straps coming off and this forum is the first time I'd ever heard of straplocks!

I admit I'm not one for jumping about on stage, but even so . . .

I'm the same....always wondered why so many use straplocks, I can kinda understand it for high-octane stage performances (although I didn't use them during my tenure in a heavy band).....but jazzers and whatnot who have to change all their basses to straplocks.......don't get it!

Yup, I take the strap button off but not the felt washer, put the strap into position, then a medium size metal washer then the strap button on top. (I keep the strap buttons on as my Status basses use them as feet so I don't need guitar stands).

Sometimes I use a longer strap screw if the original is a bit measly.

But if you like the look of gaffa tape then stick to what you know. Literally probably.

I recall reading somewhere that Stanley Clarke doesn't use conventional straplocks, or even strap pins! He just screws the strap straight onto where the pins would be. Permanent straplock!
