velvetkevorkian
Nah, if you want ghetto straplocks the rubber bits from Grolsch bottles are the way to go.
Stu-khag
worked a treat for me for about a year. wasn't so fun when I had to clean it off when I got it fixed.
thisnameistaken
Yeah I like the gaffa look. On Fenders/Stingrays/etc. anyway, it would look pretty silly on my Warwick.

danny-79
This is a nice comprimise if you dont fancy fitting straplocks (or dont like bottle washers an duct tape )
Ian Savage
It totally works in punk bands on beat-up Fender/Musicman/Gibson semi-acoustic basses; it'd look sh*t on anything with a hint of figured wood or fancy finishing. Grolsch rubbers for those all the way...
Mog
use those planetwaves locking straps too. have gaffa on my old beat up hohner. uber metal so it is!!
noelk27
Any bass I used on stage I'd just get a couple of washers and screw the strap to the body.
4-string-thing
Years ago, bread used to come in poly bags with a plastic tag to seal it...they worked a treat, think I still have some in my bass case....
OldGit
You'll be needing a bottle of this at some point then Lakland Bass Gaffa Tape Strap Lock Sticky Residue Remover
Buzz
Grolsch (or other rubber washer type) is the way to go.

Also easy to get on/off and you don't need to do anything to the strap. Edited May 11, 2010 by ThomBassmonkey
Musicman20
Nay to gaffa....I feel bad for the poor bass. I use the red rubber rings. Excellent...almost perfect fit! No drilling required.
harvey1-8
Does anybody else find that the Grolsch washers make their strap buttons unscrew?

flyfisher
I must be doing something wrong because I don't have any problems with straps coming off and this forum is the first time I'd ever heard of straplocks! I admit I'm not one for jumping about on stage, but even so . . .
Sibob
I'm the same....always wondered why so many use straplocks, I can kinda understand it for high-octane stage performances (although I didn't use them during my tenure in a heavy band).....but jazzers and whatnot who have to change all their basses to straplocks.......don't get it! Fat Rich
Any bass I used on stage I'd just get a couple of washers and screw the strap to the body.
Yup, I take the strap button off but not the felt washer, put the strap into position, then a medium size metal washer then the strap button on top. (I keep the strap buttons on as my Status basses use them as feet so I don't need guitar stands). Sometimes I use a longer strap screw if the original is a bit measly. But if you like the look of gaffa tape then stick to what you know. Literally probably.

mcgraham
I recall reading somewhere that Stanley Clarke doesn't use conventional straplocks, or even strap pins! He just screws the strap straight onto where the pins would be. Permanent straplock!
