At the risk of appearing completely ignorant, who's Mark King?
Hey look, I know this is a friendly forum etc, but if you ask that sort of question without at least bunging "name of person" + Bass into google and/or youtube you are going to get a reaction as if you were being funny ...
You can at least do a bit of ground work yourself if you don't want to appear like a numpty...

This is Mark King's funniest youtube apperance by far

A fair point indeed. I could have googled him, or wiki'd him.

But then again 90% of the info on this site is available through google. I wanted to hear who he was from basschatters, in the same way that when you're chatting with mates down the pub about a film a mate just saw you ask him what it's about, and don't google the synopsis on your mobile. Sense of community and all that.

Thanks for the youtube! Something that I would not have found on my own through Google! Hooray for the community!

Re. famous bass players -

No one's under any obligation to know anything of course...

But it seems pretty odd not to want to find these things out.

If only because it's great hearing stuff I could never play ;-)

As to Mark King, well he's been pretty influential as a player.

Whether you like his style or not you need to know his sound.

I thought you were joking when you said he dropped it! That's a pretty nasty thing to do, even if the staff were snooty.
Anyway he picked up a guitar and had a look at it, and one of the assistants said "don't pick up the guitars if you can't afford them".

So he just dropped it and walked out.
What a rotten thing to do to a guitar... I always hate it when people smash them up on stage too...

He seems arrogant, he should've just given the idiot working there a few choice put-downs instead.

Yeah, if it were me, I'd have put the guitar down very gently, then dropped the staff instead.

But then that's just me.

And as for him being arrogant?

I DID say he was a guitarist.. :)

Just goes to show! I get on OK with them and they seem quite knowledgeable folk to a certain extent. The Welsh(?) chap is a nice guy - my friend bought a guitar from there recently and all was well. They do, however, have those hard cases with union jack/newspaper/skull and bones designs available from Thomman for about £35 for £80 odd which isn't on!
