Thunderpaws
Hello, My friend has made an amp, well all of the metal and electronic and electrical bits. I was going to make him a CAB from some mahogany he has (from an old table) and wondered if this is a good "sound" choice? Cheers g
alanbass1
It will look good. May have some impact on the sound but I would have thought it to be minimal if you are talking about an amp head. A combo/speaker cab is a different proposition and I would have thought mahogany would be good for this. From what I understand (which is not that much) a rigid/stiff enclosure is important, so thinckness and bracing is as important as the choice of wood. Mr. Foxen
Probably won't be as good as ply. Better making a bass out of it. Resonant properties that are good in guitars are bad in cabs, you want a cab's material to be a dead sounding as possible.
