HMX Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 (edited) I have one of these great basses: And I would really like to change the pickguard - to a darker colour perhaps. I was thinking either brown tort OR black. I play a bit of everything - mostly rock, punk and a little bit of groovy stuff (bit of metal too ) Which one do you guys think - or another to suggest that would look pleasant? I know it's rather insignificant, but I'd like opinions Thanks Edited May 15, 2010 by HMX Quote
Mr. Foxen Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 That with dark tort is about my ultimate looking bass. Shame I can't get on with jazzes. Quote
Doddy Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I really like the white. The Black with white pickguard really works with the rosewood/block inlay 'board. It's a good look. Quote
Stingray5 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I voted black too, though I do quite like red tort on black. If you kept it white, how about going with white pearl? I did that with my own Jazz, (also my 'Ray). Much nicer, imho! Quote
JTUK Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Another one for white pearl to match the blocks. Second pick would red tort. Quote
Deep Thought Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Black-I wish I knew why Fender insist on putting white scratchplates on black basses. I do have a cream one that looks quite nice. Quote
El Bajo Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Black or red for me. And what is a Boltener doing so far south, usually we don't venture pass Manchester, theres no need we have verything we could possibly want here Quote
Bassassin Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 White pearl - or why not black pearl? Never seen that on a black/rosewood/pearl blocks J before, I think it would look great. Jon. Quote

Heathy Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 My black jazz came with a black pickguard. The sunburst one came with white parchment. Couldn't be happier with both of them. I'm occasionally tempted by a Phil Lynott style mirror, but then remind myself that I don't have a roadie to polish it. Quote

OR - as recently posted on BC - get a clear guard and place a photograph underneath it! Then you can change the guard to whatever you want as your mood suits. I think it looked brilliant!! - But I can't remember WHO posted it or where it was!! I was thinking of something like a photograph of a circuit board, or a picture of a piece of curly maple?? Something a bit different! Quote

Musicman20 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Personally I'd stick with the White...it works. Brown tort is the best tort there is but it doesn't look as good on black as it does White or 3TS. Quote
daz Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 why dont you have a mess around in Photoshop or sumsuch, then you can try any colour or pattern of pick cover you can think of. First off take a good quality pic of the Fender to base it on, then try any colour or pattern. There are a few different methods to do this in Photoshop, or if you dont have that maybe someone could suggest a free or time limited programme ? (Is Paintshop Pro still going anyone know ?) Quote
Shambo Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Another vote for black. I've already got a shoreline gold jazz but I want to buy one of these just so I can put a b/w/b scratchplate on it. Quote
Dave Vader Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Red Tort on a black Jazz, I think there's a law about it somewhere.... Quote
