janmaat
Hi, it's a short-scale bass SG style branded "columbus" and "made in Japan". The guy who gave me this said he might find the bridge too. Fingerboard looks like it's been played a LOT someone must have loved that guitar. The fingerboard is still totally straight. looks like rosewood / maple. The body is made of a top and a bottom, both one single piece. Electric seem to sort of work. Lots of dashes including some cracks but the neck seems to rest firmly. Bridge and nut are missing. Not so sure what to do - if he finds the bridge, will try to repair it. Or does anyone want this? Any other thoughts? Thanks!

Bassassin
I'd love the chance to bring this one back to life - if you don't fancy doing it, give me a shout. Columbus was the one of the most common JapCrap brands in the UK in the 70s, most of them were pretty low-end but build quality was not bad & they tend to have good necks/frets. My first guitar was a Columbus SG, and it was actually pretty good - until I snapped the headstock. Jon.
Mr. Foxen
I'd hold out for the bridge turning up. Makes the difference between a restoration and a Frankenstein resurrection into something new.

It was really, really horrible. I played one that was for sale at a car boot recently and it was just as awful as I remembered. I'd turn that Columbus into a wall clock or a coffee table. Bassassin
I can only speak from my own experience here, but I kind of feel most of the JapCrap starter stuff from the 70s was just in need of a good setup. At 16 I didn't have a clue - I just though my first few basses were rubbish! These days adjusting truss rods, setting intonation, dressing frets etc is second-nature, and to be honest I've found very few old Japanese basses & guitars that couldn't be made to play nicely with a little bit of work. jvoronsky
I would love too have this as I have just been given one with a broken neck. Yes it may be C**p but when you are just strating anything to practice on is a help.
