Best way to settle what should stay and what should go.

Here you have 3 sound samples the basses are
Overwater Evolution 5 strung with flats tuned ADGCF, 35 inch scale.
Dearmond Starfire with Darkstar pickups with 50-110 flats tuned DGCF, 30 inch scale, hollowbody.
Hofner 185/E2 with 50-110 flats tuned DGCF, 30 inch scale.

So the questions to answer are
1. Which is which.
2. Which sounds the most vintage.
3. Which sounds the best.

You answers will influence what I sell.

Thanks

I'll stick my neck out...

#3 Overwater
#1 Starfire
#2 Hofner

They all sound as vintage(ish) as each other.

I personally prefer #1

I have to confess I changed my mid over #1 and #2 at least once! :)

Saying all of that I could stick flats on one of my basses and get it to sound slightly different depending on where I plucked and my technique; so I hope this isn't all one bass and it's a con. :rolleyes:

1.

1.wav = The Hofner
2.wav = DeArmond
3.wav = Overwater 5 (this one was easy as you can hear the B-string resonating slightly as you play - A common problem on powerful active 5-stringers! :) )

2. The most vintage sound is the Hofner - The sound is nicely defined, but not too wooly, whereas the DeArmond sounds almost lost when the tone control was shut off.

3. Would have to be the tight definition of the Overwater for me - Much more growl than the others.

DAMN! :) I knew I should have gone with my first thoughts (hence the illogical numbering of my choices); now that I've seen/heard the other thread I go back to my original choice that in fact #2 is the DeArmond! :rolleyes:

No 1 and 2 sound equally vintage to me, with 2 being a little more soulful and motownish, if you know what i mean.

Number 3 sounds great in its own right though, but more modern than the others.
