As soon as a company makes up it's own way of rating power output, I tend to stop listening, or caring, because it generally means these people have let their marketing departments override their sensibility. Watts are watts, regardless of whether they come out of a solid state head, a tube head, or a unicorn's arse. There are no magical watts that are somehow worth 3x "normal" watts.

He did, I think he's just saying it is about as loud as 2000 watt solid state amp would be, but your right, it is a bit misleading!

Four single-ended trasmission triodes of that kind! You'll get 650W of power to your speakers, but you'll be able to melt lead on the chassis, and you'll need your own power station to run it...

All watts are the same but due to the much discussed harmonics you get from valves, a valve amp "sounds" louder than an equal SS amp. Which, I think, is the point PJ is making in the video.

Think you have to clip it to get harmonics. Not really an option with 650w.

No, THD is total harmonic distortion as in the amount of harmonics produced in the clean signal, clipping it does produce alot more harmonics though.


I think the guy was saying that it'd be percieved as loud as a 2000watt SS amp, i've got no quips there cos that head would be fooking loud!
