q_of_doom
Some serious speculation going on here as well. $1295 seems a bit silly, even if it's never felt the love of an owner's touch. razze06
I think you're probably better off getting one shipped from the US. The original case is one the sturdiest i've ever seen, so a good example with OHSC should be ideal, and would still cost less than some of the ones on offer in the shops here
Mykesbass
Was gigging last night with my gorgeous Shuker 5 string fretless tele style bass and kept looking down hallucinating that I had a T40 in my hands - never played one but remember them as a kid when they and the T60's came out and always loved them. Now that's what I call GAS Now if anyone fancies swapping one for an Epiphone Jazz guitar......

Shabbs
Evening gents, just recently joined and laughed when flat Eric mentioned another heavy bass, the Ibanez Studio which i foolishly sold many years ago but thankfully held onto my T40. It's natural with maple neck, early one I think need to check the serial, but an amzing bass all round, I'll post some pics when I get the chance. Was wondering if cases come up as I'm keen to get one? Cheers. Edited November 16, 2012 by Shabbs
Ahhh, well - there might be a reason for that. That is a rare 8M with the line around the TRC and. . . . . . the original warranty!! Got to dash but I will come back tomorrow on this and to catch up on the recent "Forty" activity. Cheers.

FlatEric
Good point, Marco - I know what you mean but as a collector/player, these things are worthy of note. The 8M serials and generally accepted as some of the earliest T's, altough there were others slightly before. I will come back with more details on the 8M. If anyone is interested - I put this up as a separate post in General Discussion but will also post it here. Chip Todd is helping me document the Peavey T Story, so if you want to go here: http://flatericbassandguitar.blogspot.co.uk/ SCROLL DOWN TO 16TH OF OCTOBER and then read by scrolling up - it's in a blog format, so the start of any feature is at the bottom. Slightly confusing!! I will be putting up Chip's next installmant, tomorrow or Friday. Cheers.

LukeFRC
I love t40 s, everytime I see this thread i wish i hadnt moved mine on. Mind you I remember the reasons I did.
Drip, Drip, Drip. . . . . !! Next post coming soon, with even more details! The one that was up for big $$$ is a bit of a rare bird. This has the very early "Line around the truss rod cover". This was only run out on a limited number and then changed to the way all the remainder are. It has the early case but not the first, they were more traditional looking. I have a case like this but the interior is in Blue! never seen another one. . . . Yet! According to the blurb, this was the Demo bass that the store bought in 1978, and sold basses on after a trial on this one. All as per ex-factory. The only thing missing is the film cover, which showed how the controls work. Not many of these around!! Nice bit of history. Cheers. razze06
We made a few flip camera videos at practice, all featuring yours truly on T40. Lots of mistakes, but a chance to hear the T40 through the practice room's Ampeg 450 (solid state) and 8x10. I normally set it up with both pickups on and in pahse, neck pickup fully open (humbucking, 10 on the dial), and the bridge pickup at 7 (humbucking but brighter). Strings are picatos roundwounds. razze06
My T40 has a different writing on the headstock, looks like a transition period I don't have the serial number on me just now, I seem to recall it was dated to late 1979/early 1980. Only some of the patents had been granted at the time, it seems.
No need, really - there are some to choose from in the UK. From the USA, there is the cost of the bass, shipping, UK VAT, at 20%, customs charge and handling fee.
