parker_muse Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 I play in a ska band and my style of play isn't what i'd call that traditionally skaish. I play a lot of melodically bluesy lines as it's just my style and how i write things. Big bouncy fun catchy basslines. When i try and be skay i end up just using loads of 1st/3rd/5th arpeggios. What should i look at doing to give myself as ska-ish vibe as possible? Quote
Wil Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 I play in a ska band and I tend to steer towards more "rolling" grooves (Sublime sort of stuff) as opposed to the walking Rancid style basslines. It's all down to preference really, if you like the bouncier stuff I'd recommend you give Keasby Nights by Streetlight Manifesto a listen, the basslines are really melodic and fun. Quote
EssentialTension Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Walking lines can often work in ska. I'd recommend Ed Friedland's Reggae Bass (which should have been called Jamaican Bass).
