Chris Horton Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 (edited) I am thinking about buying a 6 string , Can anyone recomend any Quality 6 string bass guitars that would be worth looking at up to £ 1500 mybe £ 1600 new or second hand that is easy to play. I would be very interested to hear anyone's thoughts / opions etc Thanks in advance Chris Edited November 27, 2010 by Chris Horton Quote
Platypus Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Personally, I would look closeld at this Celinder: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...amp;hl=celinder Quote
PGTips Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 You could get a used Yamaha TRB6PII, or a new Warwick Corvette $$ 6 String. I have both and they are very good. I prefer the 34" scale of the Warwick as it suits my small hands better than the 35" scale of the Yamaha. I think a new Yamaha would be about £2700 ish........ Quote
Lfalex v1.1 Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 New? Perhaps A Warwick Streamer LX VI? The aforementioned Yamaha? One of more expensive Ibanez? Second Hand? What can you find? Smiths might be in budget, as might a Vigier. Quote
OutToPlayJazz Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 That'll be the Yamaha TRB-6, then. Whether it's got the piezo bridge or not, these are great basses. I should have never sold my TRB-6 II bolt on model. It was a seriously nice bass. Quote
pantherairsoft Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 I have found that the best 'off the shelf' so to speak 6ers tend to be Roscoes IMHO, The necks just seem to pay themselves… yo may struggle to get one for your price range though. Last time I was at Bass Direct Mark had a nice Clover 6 in for around £1600 if I recall. That played and sounded very TRB to me, with a different, well rounded feel. As its new and under warranty, that may be worth a little peek! Quote
Delberthot Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 If I was going for a 6 right now it would be a toilet seat Musicman Bongo just cos they have the fantastic MM build quality and the phenomenal 4 band EQ Quote

OR....there was a Zon 6 on sale here... OR like Rich said, a Yamaha TRB JP6 Edited May 30, 2010 by bubinga5 Quote
Grand Wazoo Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 I agree on the Bongo 6, they are effortlessly easy to play, light weight and a powerhouse of sound to boot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lS0mQDmQzAs Quote

Someone on here had one for sale a a few weeks back, for a very good price, then withdrew it - could be worth hitting them up, if intrested in a Bongo 6... Quote
sixshooter Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 Look at the Modulus up for exchange here and see if he would take cash! although you might have to pay a bit more than £1500 Quote
bassbora Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 You should be able to find a used Warwick Thumb or Streamer stage 1 for that price. I have both 5 and 6 string Thumb and I personally love them to bits. Some people find them heavy and maybe not everybodies taste but a Streamer Stage1 should be up there as well. Quote
Hoppo75 Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Just out of your price range mate, but for £2000 you can get one of these...... http://www.www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guita...BZII_6_Nat.html Quote

MythSte Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Another plus one for a nice Yamaha TRB here - It feels least like a big chunky six string of all the 6 strings I've played, if that makes sense! Quote

I was going to suggest a used Modulus Quantum before I noticed you said it as well! However, there's some nice Yamaha's around too and I look forward to Chris's review. Quote
ThomBassmonkey Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Surprised no-one's said it yet, but £1500 is a huge outlay to try out a 6 string. If you're going to spend that much, make sure you go 2nd hand so you won't lose much (if anything) if 6 strings doesn't suit you. Quote

Truckstop Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Bassdirect have a gorgeous looking Overwater Fusion 6 for a grand straight up. That would have been a great buy! I wish I could afford £100 a month Truckstop Quote
