My new 'old' Nash '63 Jazz

Just bought this off BassDirect. Very dull overcast day so not the greatest pics. Its a 2007 JB-63, fairly heavily relic'd with a nitro 3TS finish. Its the perfect Jazz for a Precision lover with a P-width (1.625") chunky neck - in fact I defy any Precision + flats fan not to enjoy playing this one! The neck is what makes these such a joy to play, very worn-in and smooth feeling. It is strung with Pyramid flats for retro goodness and I have taken the action down so its very slick playing. Also I have removed the chrome covers as I find them too constricting for pick style playing.

I used to own a CAR Nash JB-63 which is now owned by BC'er Stacker and I shouldn't have sold (it paved the way for a brief flirtation with a vintage '73 Jazz that I just couldn't get on with, neck too thin for my liking). Very lovely bass and a great pairing with my '72 Precision. Now I just need to raise some money from selling something (my '76 fretless preferably) to cover the expenditure!

Well after ascertaining from Stacker that he didn't want to sell me back his lovely CAR one, it was just a couple of emails and phone calls with Mark at BassDirect. I took a bit of a punt as Warwick is too far for me to drive but am very pleased I did.

Excellent - Well I'm glad it worked out well for you & the 3TS model is really nice looking, too.

I keep thinking of popping in there, but I know I'll spend a lot of money on something! I keep eyeing up the used KingBass he has & also the top of range Nordstrand 5-string! I think it's best I keep away from there, LOL!

Wow Clarky, your recent acquisitions are giving me some serious GAS (and not a bit of envy!) I've not had the pleasure of trying a Nash but the '63 looks absolutely lovely - just begging to be played. I'm going to have to sort myself out with a chance to play a couple of Nashs - yours has the appearance of a much gigged but cared for classic. Tremendous work!

BassDirect are going to start stocking Nash basses - I believe 4 are on order (there is a page on the BassDirect website now http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...ists/NASH.html) so these should start getting a little easier to try out (previously I believe only V&R imported Nash basses and even then fairly infrequently)

He didn't mention it but two BCers have already contacted me about this bass and I suspect one of them was the person you are referring to

Whats the deal with the Fender logo though?
I've never seen a Nash guitar without one and I'm assuming they don't put them on?
New Nashes - as far as I am aware - now carry a NashGuitars decal. I presume this is because Nash is now well-known and respected enough to carry its own logo. Prior to that, somehow F*nder decals mysteriously appeared on all their basses (draw your own conclusion!)

yep, it does

although I should add that, wonderful that this bass is, it will soon have a new owner (as part of a trade for a genuinely unique and stunning bass I have coveted; details later this week)

As a mainly Precision man I am not too au fait with the different J pups. Incidentally I am sure I read somewhere that Ultrajazzes have some kind of humbucking property compared with plain J pups

Bloody hell, Clarky - I thought it was true love this time.... That Nash is lovely - I played it in BassDirect, so the incoming must be something a bit special. Look forward to hearing about the new addition...

The Nash is wonderful but the incoming bass really is something special. Won't get it until later this week when all will be revealed!

heheheh, I cant wait. At the moment though, all i can think is the 51P on Nash guitars website, with an added J pup at the bridge and concentric vol/tone for each. vintage white, Flatwounds, Badass II and a nice chunky aged rosewood neck.... drooool. Warmoth jazz will do for the mo.

Thanks for the info on pups.

Si
Thats what it says on their website... probably due to RW/RP of Bridge with respect to Neck.
