obbm Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 but I find the plain white scratch plate on my Lakland Duck Dunn rather bland and uninspiring. It needs enhancing. With what should I replace it? Mirror? Black? Gold anodised? Help me out here. Quote
d-basser Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 worn brassy gold like Stu Hamms in the vid thats on youtube Quote
BigRedX Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 Personally I'd go for either black or how about chrome? Quote
d-basser Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 second thoughts i aint sure gold would work because of the pickup surround, black or chrome as BigRed suggested may be the way. do a bit of photoshopping and have a poll. Quote
Status Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 I saw a black bass with an amazing wood pickguard. I reckon a nice maple pickguard would look like the mutts nuts! Alternatively a nice white pearloid one would look good. Quote
Buzz Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 (edited) + 1 White pearloid. I don't think black would work, and chrome might be too shiney chromy, especially with the knobs. Edit: Status beat me on the White Pearloid. Edited May 16, 2007 by Buzz Quote
guitarnbass Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 Looks good to me as it is, but white pearloid if you must.. Quote
birdy Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 I quite like it the way it is but would also consider an off white guard that a lot of CAR basses have, I think its technically called mint maybe? Its sorta white with a slight green tint, I am sure you have seen one and know what I mean! Quote
elom Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 I don't know if such a thing exists but I think that a brushed steel plate would look fantastic on there Quote
Spikyhedgehog Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 Black all the way. But I just love the black on red combination. Quote
Owen Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 If you go with anodised, then Jeannie's do one in plastic over the gold stuff which would save you getting that fingernail on metal vibe that I hate with mine Quote
warwickhunt Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Oi 'Picky'! ...couldn't think of anything constructive and it was begging to be done Quote
R,5,R,5... Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Tort? It does work well with some reds. Otherwise, a deep burgundy perhaps? Quote
Mobius Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 +1 on the white pearloid. I think the white is a good colour but pearloid will make it look less plain. Quote
The Funk Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 (edited) Black! ... or even black brushed metal... Edited May 17, 2007 by The Funk Quote
franzbassist Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Dave, I say gold adonised or pearly white! Quote
lowhand_mike Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 think it looks the nuts as it is which is odd as not a massive fan of p-basses or wasn'tmaybe its the resemblance to a ray, but if you must change go pearl white or possibly gloss black. Quote

Anyway, that has a mint green guard I believe but I'm considering white pearloid or clear perspex on that. Whenever I see white on red I'm reminded of Hank Marvin *shudder* Quote
