fergy1971 Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 Peeps, I went into the studio to record some songs this weekend and my Hohner Steinberger B2AV just did not cut the mustard . I've been a bit frustrated with it for a while now tbh. I've now started looking for a replacement. I'm looking for another five with a narrow neck. We play your average birthday/wedding/pub gigs - standard musical prostitution really! I've been drawn towards Spectors initially. Is there anything to look out for with these? Are there other makes/models worth looking at as well. Thanks in anticipation. Ferg Quote
geoffbyrne Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 See above (currently) - Peavey Cirrus BXP for 35" scale & good B string, or Peavey Millenium for a 34" scale. Both have fairly narrow necks. G. Quote
Mog Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 Ibby SR range. Start from about £350 I think (not up with the exchange rates at the mo). Serious neck and great tones. Quote
yybass Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 Yep Early nineties Music Man Stingray 5 Reason: Price, sound & build. Quote
bassbora Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 Whats your budget? Do you have any fav shapes (Fender/Stingray etc) or pickup config (P or JJ)? Quote

Hamster Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 Narrowest neck 5 I've ever played was an Ibanez. Neck was fantastic, tone was OK but on reflection it would really have benefited from a pickup swap. Quote
tauzero Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 Peavey Grind 5, Schecter Stiletto Studio 5, Ibanez SR505. Quote
Chris Horton Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 I have a Stingry 5 which i would recomend , great tone and easy to play. a friend of mine uses a yamaha trb 5 which has a very comfortable slim neck with a great low profile Quote
Wil Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 I got a Spector Legend Custom recently and the neck is really comfy. On a par with the Status 5 strings I owned easily. The sound is a different beast from those entirely, more punch and warmth, less sizzle. Which I prefer, I think! Quote
OutToPlayJazz Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 Before I (like everyone else) start mentioning loads of different basses, perhaps you could tell us what the issue was with the B2AV? Too thin? Not enough output? Etc etc... Quote

RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 i'd say hunt down a proper steiney, or original status if you have funds Quote
pete.young Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Slight plug for my G&L Tribute 2500 in the 'for sale' forum, which has a narrow neck and 16mm string spacing Quote
thepurpleblob Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Depends what you mean by 'narrow'. Thin front to back? String spacing? Narrow nut width? Something else? Quote
