simondee Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 (edited) Hi all, Here is my semi-legendary Warwick Thumb NT 5 string custom shop in gloss white with red LEDs on the top of the neck. It has a pair of bartolini's and dates from the early 90s. I was told by the guy I bought it from that it was made to Prince's spec for an awards performance, but I've never found any evidence to support this story. Anyway, it's a stunning early 90s Thumb with a unique paint job and is a guaranteed head-turner. She does have a few dings and scratches (white finishes are tough to maintain) but none are visible from the front. I'm looking for a firm £800 for this bass. Comes with a very old Rockbag complete with retro Bass Centre logo. Nice. Pics: You'll notice the dings. By the strings there is a small patch where the top coat has come off a little. Also the top of the neck has seen some wear (OBVIOUSLY). The very top of the body has some dings which the previous owner thought could be dealt with a bit of a touch up. It seems to be enamel paint though, so is easily scratched off if you want to retouch it. It's not visible from the front though, and any owner of a white bass will tell you how tough it is to keep these finishes perfect, apart from never playing it! PM me any questions. Thanks! Rumble Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 I'm not usually one for white basses, but something about that Thumb just works! How heavy is it and does the neck have a constant desire to kiss the floor?!
simondee Posted June 2, 2010 Author Posted June 2, 2010 It balances nicely but it's a heavy, heavy bass.
Guest BassKS Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 Are you the 'Wicker man. hahaha. I'll get me coat. Good luck with the sale. SSII looks tasty
Stockholm Syndrome Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 Has the Thumb got the older style cavity cover or the newer, clip-on one?
simondee Posted June 2, 2010 Author Posted June 2, 2010 It has this one, which is the older I believe: It's also got the old school truss rod cover and brass nut.
thisnameistaken Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 I'm no expert but that Thumb has pre-1991 hardware on it, suggesting it's older than you think. Does it have a serial number stamped on the end of the headstock?
simondee Posted June 3, 2010 Author Posted June 3, 2010 Brilliantly, the paintjob goes straight over the serial number, so not sure of the actual date. Ding me some offers people, I need to shift these basses!
simondee Posted June 8, 2010 Author Posted June 8, 2010 BUMP! Any more offers out there before I have to resort to That Auction Site?
D-L-B Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010
It's a West Germany so most likely older than 91'
My Fortress 1 is a '95 model but still has West Germany on the machine heads.
simondee Posted June 10, 2010 Author Posted June 10, 2010 Righto chaps, we've got some good action going on the Thumb, so if you're interested in it then let me know ASAP. A few nibbles on the SSII but nothing solid as yet. The only trades I'm after are: - a good 4x10 cab (Eden, EBS etc) - another cheaper warwick (50% value or less) But I'll take cash as preference. Make me some offers guys!
simondee Posted June 11, 2010 Author Posted June 11, 2010 SSII dropped to a grand. Will ship too. Serious investment bass at bargain price!
gingerfish Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 Might be worth dropping these on the Warwick forums. They will probably get you the full info on the Thumb too.
simondee Posted June 15, 2010 Author Posted June 15, 2010 PRICE DROPPED AGAIN!!! under a grand for a NEW SSII!!
Stockholm Syndrome Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Hey Simon, you know I tugged the white one a while back. It's still GAS-inducing. I don't understand why this hasn't sold yet. The only thing sweeter than a Thumb NT5 is a Thumb NT5 with soapbars! Heck, if my Modulus sells I could buy both...
