thisnameistaken Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Figured maple looks a bit 'lottery winner' to me. I'll have mine plain, ta. Quote
BigRedX Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Completely depends on the body shape what the other woods are, whether you're going to stain it or keep the figuring natural, and the actual figuring on the wood itself... Quote
OutToPlayJazz Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Flamed - Looks expensive to me But judging by comments so far, it would seem "Austerity Britain" is catching on fast! Now, where did I put my ration coupons...? Quote
Clarky Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Quilted maple looks like curdled milk to me. Flamed any day Quote

Stu-khag Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 I like the look of flamed necks but not too fussed on flamed or quilted bodies so its a neither from me Quote
JTUK Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 I have gloriously quilted facing on a bass and I also have one in an off-white. They both do a great job and have relegated the other 'expressive' bass...but the one that gets the most attention from a looks POV, is the white bass. It does have a patterned neck and sounds great, IMV..but that isn't what attracts people to it in the 1st instance. So, after going down this route...and lusting after that quilted bass for ages..I'd get a solid bodied colour next time...well, maybe, a nice tobacco burst, tort plate and rosewood bound neck. Yep..!! Quote
wotnwhy Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Quilted body, flamed neck, birdseye fingerboard Quote

Edited June 3, 2010 by dood Ridden with GUILT I edited my postfor forgetting Tom. I hang myhead in shame!!! Quote
Wil Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 (edited) I don't mind either, as long as it's subtle. Flamed works better with lighter finishes and quilting with darker ones, I reckon. Edited June 3, 2010 by Wil Quote
Musicman20 Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Birdseye maple neck, thats it. Not keen on flame/quilted bodies, but thats just me Quote
NJE Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 A quilted top can look a bit OTT sometimes in certain colours but thats probably because I am jealous and cant afford a quilted topped bass I think if I was going for a natural trans finish though it would probably be flamed body as I think on the whole it is slightly more subtle, a flamed maple neck and birdseye maple fingerboard, hmmmm maple! Quote
Wil Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 This used to be mine, and if I do say so myself, the top was a bloody lovely bit of flamed maple: Quote
Cat Burrito Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 I prefer it straight but I've seen good examples of both flamed & quilted Quote
wotnwhy Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010
Yes yes yes!! - I still ADORE Johngh's Shuker headless.... take a look at this blonde bombshell!
Thanks for remembering mine... :snob: which i think looks particularly fetching in the right light, like at a gig last weekend: Quote
Ian Savage Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Neither here - don't mind a subtle bit of flaming on the neck but when my bass looks more attractive than me it's time to draw the line. Hence beat-up Fenders for the past few years... Quote
clauster Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Another one who likes a nice birdseye maple neck! Not a fan of qulited or flame bodies..... Always remind me of '80s Super-Strats Quote
Dood Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010
Thanks for remembering mine... :snob:
Guilty as charged m'lud. I have edited my post! - Tom, I remember visiting Jon for the first time when I bought my first Shuker. Your Bass was there waiting for that mammoth 3 coil custom pickup to arrive! I think it defintely sowed the seeds for getting my own design together! Please forgive me! Quote
Stingray5 Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Please sir, could I have both? Flame front, Birdseye back, or vise versa (with a birdseye neck) Quote
