Golchen Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Flamed for the win. Not keen on quilt at all with light finishes, dark and you're OK. To be honest though I prefer a good old relicing on a beat up Fender! Quote
urb Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010
Birdseye maple neck, thats it. Not keen on flame/quilted bodies, but thats just me
plus the one - Quote
M-Bass-M Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Flamed for me please. My current GAS involves a blue-stained flamed maple body with a red tortoiseshell pick guard, just like the old Fotoflame Precision I once owned. *sigh* Quote
wotnwhy Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 (edited) I've never seen a table that looks that good! Edited June 4, 2010 by wotnwhy Quote
burno70 Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 I like both - am I bi or just curious? (can I vote twice?) Quote
MoonBassAlpha Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Birdseye for the neck please! A nice quilt is dreamy for me. Not quite so keen on flamed tops where the bookmatch is angled, doesn't look quite right to me Quote
cgordonfreeman Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Quilted like this : *cough* it's for sale *cough* Quote
velvetkevorkian Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Quilted. Flamed is OK, especially on the backs of double basses, while birdseye is pointless and rubbish IMHO. Quote
JTUK Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 It depends how subtle you like to be. A flame will not look so great unless close up...whereas a big quilt will 'show-off' at quite a distance. Quite an important point if that featuire has cost you quite a lot.. Bird eye on the neck or board is just nice detail...but flame works on the neck rather than as a facing. I am not sure I see the point of nice detailed wood colured beyiond natural..and if it doesn't work in natural then forget it..IMHO. I like basses to look nice so have both....but they have to play and sound good...both of which I think they do. Quote
tino Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010
Just wondering everyones opinions...
Go on GUESS Quote
ezbass Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 If you're going to have a showy instrument (and why not) I would always go for quilt, especially on a bass. I would also have it in trans teal over black stain, mmmmmmmm  Quote
2pods Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I've had a quilted Anni 'ray, so I'd prefer Flamed now, though my current Ibanez isn't a great example. Quote
Lorne Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 BOTH,but not topped,SOLID wood My favorite is Bird's eye maple though, although I no longer have a bass with that Quote
