Smash
At the moment I am using Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders SPB-3 in my Precision trouble is when using distortion pedals the sound is very boomy and I cannot dial enough treble in, or maybe should I say mid range. The distortion sounds compressed compared to my US Jazz basses, I am wondering if there is a better pick up for my needs that will drive distortion pedals without this problem. Delberthot
The Lollar I had in my last Precision worked perfectly with distortion but they are wound similar to the original so if not a lollar then one of the SPB-1 or SPB-2 or anything more conventional
geoffbyrne
Depends, maybe, more on which pedal it is? My Marshall Gov'ner II has 4 band EQ and can go from a soft mid scooped 'suzz' to all out paint-stripping fuzz. The MXR-80+ is very middy and that channel employs the mids-scoop button permanently! Smash
I think I have nailed it down to the pickup being too hot, making it more of an active sounding bass which to me always makes the distortion sound compressed. So I think that maybe a more vintage, noisier lower output pickup may suit better, as said above the SPB-1 but I do love Dimarzio pups so might try one of them. warwickhunt
I have a pup for sale with the ability to alter some of the frequency centres... Not sure if it would be better or worse but it might be just what you need! Smash
Still the same problem tonight these SPB-3 are not for me, I am a big fan of Dimarzio pickups does anyone know what ones would emulate a USA Precision Pickup, thanks

This would reduce the output (but also change the tone). G.

I was just going to follow the wire and swap them out with some less aggresive pickups, like SPB-1 or Fender 62s, but really wanted a Dimarzio which would be in the same bracket as a US Precision PUP.
