Beer of the Bass Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 I like the album version better. I reckon this line-up were best on the numbers where they used synth bass. Is it sacrelige to say that on a bass forum? Quote
burno70 Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 WOw - haven't listened to Beefheart for years - I'll have to dig out Trout Mask Replica and give it a spin! Thanks for that! Quote

Sibob Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Bloody genius!! Try playing stuff like this, it's rediculously hard, as all the parts are written and set in stone!! It goes against everything we consider to be harmonious! I love Trout Mask Replica!! Little trivia for those who didn't know, Beefheart wrote out every instruments part for the album on Piano....every instrument, including drums. He can't play piano. Then he told the guys to learn what he'd written (having had his guitarist notate it). Makes for bizarre parts! Si Quote

And during rehearsals for TMR he kept the band virtual prisoners in a house in the boondocks for months on end and made them all wear masks and act in character while recording the album... ...still, better than the 9 to 5, eh? EDIT: Meanwhile, you may find this entertaining... or not. Edited June 5, 2010 by discreet Quote

Gust0o Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Love the tone on that The Fall video - awesome stuff, just like I always imagine I sound! Does lead me to a random quote I got once after a very early uni gig - "Do you not get bored playing the same line?" D'oh! Quote
