RhysP Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010
After seeing Darren from the Pirate Twins playing a Status Series II with Thomas Dolby earlier in the year.....
Did you go to the Union Chapel "Flat Earth" gig? I'd love to have gone but it would have meant a stop-over & I couldn't get the following day off work. Quote
Conan Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 A Status series II fretless five string to (sort-of) match my fretted four. I know there have been a few around recently, but sadly i don't have a spare grand kicking about! Quote
JimD Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 I did, and it was sooo good. You might be able to see the pics I took on Flickr if this URL works http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=dolby&w=39526605%40N00 Of-interest-to-bassists-that-night were Matthew Seligman (TD bassist in the 80's), Martin Mcaloon from Prefab Sprout, and Trevor Horn, but when Darren did the sequenced bassline from Hyperactive on his Status it was really "something-to-see". I used to play it in a covers band in the late 80s... took ages to get the bass part sounding right! Quote
Gust0o Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 That dragon wing looks a little like the BC Rich Beast. You'd lose an eye on either, mind Quote
Ian Savage Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 If I end up gigging again, it'd ideally be with a Fender Aerodyne and/or a MusicMan SUB. I am a simple man of simple tastes Quote
yorick Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 A lefty Geddy Lee.................................... Quote
squire5 Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Definitely a Slab Precision,in Butterscotch with black scratchplate.Oh yeah! Quote

elom Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 I now have my full complement of basses and it would be economically and matrimonially very bad to add to that BUT... I have major GAS for the new Fret-King Ventura Super 80 Bass. And I haven't even tried one... Quote
Kongo Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010
yamaha attitude for me please, sea foam green or Candy Apple Red
Seconded, or a Urge II. My P-bass is becoming more and more like an Attitude as we speak...a few features...actually ALL features on that bass will work for me 100%! I want the Seafoam Green tho, even tho he plays Lava Red, Seafoam Green is the colour I associate...Black looks like any other P-bass (such as mine!) Quote
Jerry_B Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 A natural wood finish T-40, or an unlined fretless '70s P bass. Quote
alanbass1 Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Um, I think I would get another one of these: Quote
Count Bassie Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010
Um, I think I would get another one of these:
Now I don't have to go find a picture to post. I want a Rickie- and no number of basses I might have (won't be anywhere near the magnitude of some of the quivers seen around here) would cause me a moment's hesitation. In fact I'd be ready to unload a few to make room. I had one, but learned a hard lesson! I'll be back, I am sure of it. I want an older "S" series- no binding, set-neck, dots, curves, mono output. Color is less an issue. There I go: "I want"... glad my kids don't read this stuff! Quote
risingson Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I'm a Fender man myself, got a U.S Jazz w/rounds and an old P-Bass w/flats. Always wanted a Sadowsky but since I got back from Rudy's NYC I've wanted one of these: F-Bass BN5! Don't know many 21 year olds with £2000 lying around though, which is what I need Quote
Chris2112 Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 For me, it has to be a Status Kingbass. I know my Kubicki will cover all my headless, modern sounding needs (ie: all I want from a fretted bass!) but I still want one. I'll get one someday! Quote
Count Bassie Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010
Too many basses? I fail to understand.
This is the right attitude. Quote

Answer to the question has to be , a Kubicki ex factor,a headless zon, steinberger trans trem.. better stop now
Well played - I don't think I could make do these days without a Kubicki Ex Factor, they are just too cool. This thread has also made me take note of the bassline to "Hyperactive" by Thomas Dolby for the first time, and I'll be setting out to learn that bassline over the next few days, it is incredible. Kiwi Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010
KingBass Mk-II 5-string for me
+1 but customised with a deeper lower cutaway so the 24th fret can be reached, soapbars and headless.... ...or I could do something with the 10 or so Steinberger necks I still have sitting around at home here... Quote
Steve_nottm Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Don't "need" another bass at the moment, however....... Fender Jazz, all original 1973, Red with matching headstock, block inlays. I think i'd have to sell a child or 2 to get that if it came up for sale, but i'm not sure I could resist. Quote
