deathpanda Posted June 18, 2010 Share Posted June 18, 2010 (edited) Over the past year of playing bass, I've developed the ability to listen to a track and almost isolate the bass from the mix (well maybe not isolate, but it's much clearer than it was before). I've been listening to a lot of my favourites and have come across a few bass recordings that stand out from the rest and are to [i]die[/i] for. Share yours, I'm interested in hearing some more, no doubt you'll have better examples than me. this won't be new to anyone, but listen to that production and tone... especially at 1:47, probably one of the best rock recordings ever. youtube probably won't do it any justice... edit* if I didn't make it clear, I'm talking from mainly a production and tone point of view rather than the "best bassline" if ya get me. I don't like prog rock, I don't think I would recognise a single Rush song and I couldn't listen to that for longer than about 30 seconds (I skipped ahead and heard his voice and then I turned it off) so it will still sound new the next time someone plays it to me! I really like the bass sound on [url="http://vimeo.com/201778"]this[/url]. It's compressed to destruction but strangely... good. Neither have particularly fantastic production values & both share a fairly unremarkable tone, but they poke right through the mix & blow me away every time I hear them: Quite possibly Dave Peacock (but no Chas)... That's nice! and the Brecker Brothers too. I'm gonna have to give this a good ol' listen. Even though I don't listen to much metal any more the first track that comes to mind is Tool's Jambi, this Wal sounds like it's causing tectonic movement, nice. What's great is the fact that there are a 2 or 3 fantastic tones going. I had forgotten how much I love this talk box solo 5 minutes in mmmmm ...
