Rumble
Simple question - I currently have a Bergantino 2x10 which I need to stand on a table in order to hear myself. Should I stick with this (hoping each time that I can find a table to stand it on) or opt for a lightweight 4x10 that can just stand on the floor? In terms of 4x10 brands I'm thinking EBS, Epifani etc...
Mr. Foxen
You standing it on end? Should have same effect as a 4x10.
Rumble
Yep, it's on end on a chair or a table.
Mr. Foxen
4x10 on the floor probably won't offer any more then. Aside from being louder overall, but still missing your ears.
Bill Fitzmaurice
Tilt it back. Lifting it on a table creates a loss of boundary reinforcement in the midbass. In a boomy room you may find that beneficial, but otherwise tilting it back to put the driver centers aiming at your ears is better.
LawrenceH
Try something like this: http://www.totalmusicsupply.com/Models.asp...p;ModelID=96360 I have an identical but differently-branded one, it's light and folds up making it nice and portable, and the tilt is adjustable. I find it really helps with audibility.
Rumble
Thanks for the ideas. LawrenceH, if you tilt it back how do you secure your amp onto the cab?

hubrad
I think if tilting a bass cab I would be leaving the head on the floor or a table. OP - Can you really not get enough from a 2x10 on the floor? I've never had a prob there; head is 250W Trace Elliot powering a custom build cab loaded with Eminence (400W handling).
umph
get another 210 and stack them vertically

bootros
Or get a flightcase/box for the 2x10 and stand it on top of that for gigs.

JTUK
if you don't like or can't hear it on the floor get beer crates or a table. If you are going to trade for a 4x10..then you might as well consider another
Rumble
But trading my 2x10 for a 4x10 is a virtually no cost option. Buying a second 2x10 has a definte cost associated with it and if I want comparible quality, sensitivity to my Berg 2x10 then it's quite a considerable cost. Is there any great advantage to having it on a stand 2ft off the ground tilted towards my ears, over just tilting it back against a wall whilst sat on the floor pointing towards my ears? Wil
If hearing yourself is your biggest concern, then may I suggest a Schroeder?
Rumble
Why? 'Volume' or frequencies? If it's the former, the Berg has plenty of 'volume'.
Wil
More that the angled drivers in many of their cabs can point directly at your ears if you put the cab in the right spot. That in addition to the thumpy mids they put out makes them very easy to hear in a mix. Works for me anyway!
fatback
I asked Alex (barefaced) about those Yamaha stands, and he pointed out that you would reduce the reflections from the floor, losing maybe as much as 3db of certain low frequencies normally boosted by the floor. I shouldn't have hassled him with the question, as I later found the info is very clear here: http://barefacedbass.com/technical-informa...or-coupling.htm Alex suggests tilting the cab upwards using auralex blocks as wedges.
