No. There's far more to a speaker than the cone material but as it's the most obvious feature to a layman this is a great marketing trick.

I beg to differ that my Hartke 2x12" aluminium cone cab is a marketting trick. The sound is very different to a paper coned equivalent.

aargh..I'm restless. really want to get something like a 2.5XL, but it weights a ton..so maybe these are the way to go. problem is, I don't think they're for sale anywhere yet...or are they?

I was referring to the concept of hybrid paper/aluminium cones - 'the best of both worlds' etc.

The problem with metal cone drivers in general is that they all suffer from nasty cone break up resonances, which either need to be avoided through suitable low pass filtering or you need to like the sound of that added distorted treble peak. I wonder whether the 4.5XL avoids this peak by having a full crossover between woofers and midrange.

My feeling is the paper will come away from the Aluminium over time, best of both worlds? More like jack of trades master of None?
I think Stu hamm will leave Hartke next year, those hydrives sound bad on the youtube clips.

I found this thread by searching for info on the new Kilo 1000 amp. I looked at that YouTube video, and it's the same one as on the official site, but the sound must have gotten trashed in the conversion to YouTube format. The original video has stereo sound and more high end.

I'm looking at the 2x10, but I'm a little disappointed in the FX loop: just mono send & return, no blend control. The simple footswitch facility looks useful, though. They're actually on sale in the UK now, e.g. DV247 has the 2x10 for £499. The weight is a huge turnoff, however: 62lbs! :)
