Gallien Krueger 250ml Guitar amp

Recommended Posts

I've discovered that I'm stronger than I look, and that it's possible to lug a Traynor 1x12 combo to gigs on the bus. So time for this to go.

This is the guitar version of the super-popular Microbass series of amps. It's a stereo 100W combo (50W per side) the size of a toaster, ideal for quieter guitar gigs and popular with jazzers. It houses 2 6" speakers. The speakers in these amps tended to rot (they used cheap foam for part of the cone), so in this amp they've been replaced by modern Eminence speakers. The new internal speakers are 8ohm per channel (as opposed to the original 16) so that the amp can realise its full 100W from the internal speakers. This means that the internal speakers have to be turned off (switch on the back) if you use an external cab (which must be 8 or 16ohm per channel).

Working great, and looks good when you consider this amp must be about 20 years old. Part of the reason it still looks so good is that it's all made of aluminium. The only real cosmetic problems are a couple of scratches and the knobs - so many of them were broken when I bought this amp 2 years ago, that I just replaced the lot to get a nice clean look. I've used this for practices and gigs more than happily.

This amp has a clean channel and a dirty channel, with gain set by little trimmer inside, and volume set on the front. It also has chorus, compressor and a nice analogue echo circuit built in.

This amp doesn't come with a footswitch. To operate the effects and switch channels remotely you'll need to buy an RF-II, or something equivalent. I can supply full service manuals for the amp so that someone who's clever with a soldering iron can make you one.
