It's meant to make it easier for both speaker and listener to concentrate on the message rather than the - usually long-winded - names. It's not meant to exclude foreigners AFAIK, 'as far as I know' - see what I've done! European languages have never moved in the same direction, I think, and generally only make use of a few acronyms standing for the names of political parties or institutions, or similar. As this is a U.K. forum, I recommend the ADMINs prohibit any use of the language that is not the Queen's English (and I'm a Yank!). I told my kids that you Brits actually start sentences even in writing with the word "right" and I love it. Only objection is that I am not sure about your cusine and, most especially, I am leary of Spotted Dick.
