Our old keyboard player did alright with the ladies despite being horrifically nerdy, having extreme panic attacks every time he smoked weed (but still insisting on smoking weed all the time) and being named Lambert.
Was he in last night's episode of The IT Crowd? :)

I've been with my wife now for 10 years but before that I did manage to pull a fair few girls over the years.

The funniest was a trainee dental nurse at a wedding. The keyboard player offered to play the bass part to a couple of songs so I could have a dance with her at a slow song.

By the end of the song you we were standing snogging in middle of the dance floor which had by this time cleared.

We went out on a few dates and the subject of age came up. She thought I was about 19 and I thought she was as well - I was 23 and she was 17. She was the double of Billie Piper and probably about the same age at the time.

That was in the middle of my run of going out with younger girls - I started off with a 19 year old then 18, 17, 16 and then I gave myself a shake as I didn't like where this was heading and met my wife the year after who is 4 years older than me

Mrs Zero is obviously an enthusiastic, stalker level fan then. :) She likes to get along to as many gigs I play as she can, but she doesn't come to every one.

I've never finished up with a lady (or even a non-lady) from playing a gig. Mind you, I do seem to get some glances, and you never know what might have happened on a few occasions if I weren't happily married...

Once,a very long time ago,the band I played in at the time did a gig in Dorking,Surrey.
At the end of the gig, myself and the sax player, who was a man who would shag a rolling doughnut, were approached by an American lady, and chatted up.
Whilst she was good looking, there was something about her that said"WIERDO!".
The sax player extracted himself,leaving me waiting for my drink with the nutter.She turned to me and uttered what to this day I still think as the most bizarre thing ever;
"You're all sweaty and handsome".
The former,yes.The latter,no(I had a mullet,a 'tache and a soul patch.I'm 5'7" and a bit on the porky side).
Lifting my pint,I answered with"sorry,must dash,my ice-cream is getting cold"and scarpered.
I am a bass player.
I stand at the back cos I'm fugly.

Haha, I saw that. No he wasn't quite that nerdy although he did have glasses. He ended up marrying a rather foxy fitness instructor, I mean I really liked the guy and he was a top musician too but how he bagged her I'll never know.

One of the glossy womens magazines had a cover headline this month "who are the good ones in bed? Hint: the nerds are" or something like that..
Maybe that's where I'm going wrong :)

I should add my other two abiding memories of Lambert: The summer he spent working in an amusement park as the voice of an animatronic redneck pig who told corny jokes and sang country songs. And the time he did a sh*t so long he decided to take a photo of it so he could show it to everybody. This was before the age of digital photography - he had to get it developed!

Ah I really miss him. :)

My wife is ten years younger than me (I am in my mid forties) - we've been together as a couple for about 15 years. However, she takes immense pleasure in telling people that we have known each other since she was 13!! This is technically true but not in any way that would get me on the sex offenders register. I wish she would stop it :)

I got sacked from a band who were very interested in the "pulling power of being in a band" thing (I wasn't)
Second gig, after mucho practice, I was quite comfortable with the material, cranked the Trace, and went at it.
By all accounts, I played out of my shoes.
Lots of people said "Where'd you get him from?" Then I got the boot!(and promptly joined a much better band!)
I think I inadvertently bruised a few insecure egos that night. Which is odd, because normally everyone ignores me!

Unfortunately, I was pulled at a gig once. It was the ex Mrs.Rich. :)
Oh there was a girl who my singer tried to hook me up with. Her name was Angela, she was all blonde hair and red lips and tits, and as dopey as you can imagine.
This was in the USA, and she first asked me what I was doing over there (having just seen my band perform!). I told her I was working at McGuire air force base as a stunt pilot.
"Oh really? Wow!" she cooed.
I went on to tell her that I was an English Language graduate and to combine my two loves I became a specialist in skywriting, and that my post at McGuire was in order to teach the American pilots to punctuate correctly. Because cursive is fairly straightforward once you've got the hang of flying the plane, but semicolons are hard to write and often pilots who can write one don't know where it's appropriate to use it.
Etc.
She stood up to about half an hour of this before making her excuses and backing away.
Brilliant.
Many years ago, a mate and I managed to succeessfully get the same sod-off-and-leave-us-alone result by telling two annoying women that we were plumbers working on nuclear submarines, and proceeding to explain to them in great detail how toilets work underwater.

Ok well it's not entirely true as Mrs OldGit snared me at a gig.
However it's a lot more complicated than that as I was playing saxophone with my bro in law's band and he's the bass player. She was already living with him, and my sister, and she'd known me for years and it was a setup by a mutual friend...
But other than that, nope....
