ESP B-55 tone control

My recently acquired ESP (LTD) B-55 tone control doesn't seem to be of the 'normal' variety. It dulls down quite well until about 20% from the end but then drops the volume down to almost nil when fully off. What's the prob ?

I don't know the tech jargon, but there is a kind of pot which works likes that.

For the few quid it costs, I'd just get a replacement pot.
