I'm looking for a 1u amp to go along with my Peavey Max pre.
It needs to be capable of 600W+ into 4 Ohms, so that pretty much rules out anything that needs to be bridged for high power.
It also can't be any deeper than about 11", or it won't fit in the rack case I've procured, which rules out any of the Peaveys.
Light weight wouldn't hurt either, seeing as I'm not getting any younger.

What I'd really like is an 800W amp and a 200W amp in the same chassis, but I'm not holding my breath.

So what can you tell me?

Hmm. Two SWR Amplites would give 400W each into 4 ohms in one rack space, and its only 9.75" deep.

The Hevos 800D is 1U high, 2x500W into 4 ohms. Looks like its probably deeper than you would want though.

That's all I can think of right now...

I've been having a similar dilemma myself and am yet to decide. How about something like this? Quite shallow and insanely light.

They're about £330 from Terralec. I think someone was sellling the 2K version here a while back. I don't think it went.

I know that Dood recommends the Powersoft stuff, but they're seriously not cheap. Plus I think that they're slightly deeper than what you're looking for.

Sorry, should have been a bit clearer - I'm only looking for a power amp.

I'll change the title to show this.

Also the Stewart world and peavey DPC units are nice.

It might come to that if I can't find anything I like. Trouble is, a lot of the power modules I like the look of won't fit in a 1u enclosure.

Bugger. I was rather hoping you'd find a brilliant solution which I could then commission a duplicate from :)

I've been road testing this for a bit now and it's a great amp - LDSP600
Looks v interesting but sadly will be too deep for Alien. Now, if I had the readies that would be the dream match for the Vintage :)

I imagine the depth is where they put everything that would normally go up?!!

Back to Rbbie's post, i've just acquired a Peavey DPC and it's great! Much better (for me) than the QSC RMX850 I had earlier this year dare I say it...

http://www.cad-audio.com/cadpwmmodules.htm ? Have a look towards the bottom, integrated amp + PSU. Will 40mm height just about fit into 1U?

That seems to be ideal, especially as the 1kW module will also power the 250W amp. However, when I built the mini amp for Froilan, I was advised that a lot of people had had trouble with the company, so I'm a bit dubious unless they've got their act together.

I thought these had gone out of production. A little too deep for my rack too, unfortunately, but could still be worth a look.
