mr pablo
tis a toughie that one dude, my MIJ P is great in terms of playability and the build quality is up there if not better than some MIA's i've tried, but i like the look of the new highway1's. I would say probably that the Highway1 will hold its value more due to being a limited editon model.
Tait
the japanese one is brilliant. my dad owns one and it is a great bass, i'd highly reccomend it. i havent played the highway 1.
Dood
Think you know my reply already!! You get a lot of money's worth in the *US* CIJ reissue ;O)
Muppet
I'm with Dan, I'd have the Japanese version over the HW1 and you have £200 in to the bargain for other goodies.
richy316
Most definitely the CIJ, the colour and fretboard alone would seal it for me! you could always add a Badass II afterwards and still have saved money!

I have the CIJ 70s reissue and did just that. As well as the Badass, I've fitted some EMGs (although the stock pickups are good too) and it still came in at less than the Highway. The Highway is a good bass, but the CIJ is just lots of bass for the money. In terms of build quality, the CIJ is just as good as my MIA Jazz.
