4 to 5 string precision converter kit

I admire Trev Wilkinson's inventiveness, e.g. his recently released robot tuning bridge for strats. But, I'm not sure this converter kit where you end up with one string being tuned from the bridge, and the rest from the headstock, is one of his better ideas.

I've been wanting a 5 string for ages but the problem I have is my very good 4 string. I'd need a very good 5 string to replace it. This contraption might've worked for me if the bridge was a direct replacement hole wise but I don't fancy screwing up my USA Jazz with any more holes than it came out with.

Surely the strings will then me misaligned for the pole pieces.

I have one of these. There is a real issue with pole pieces. It would work with blade magneted jazz pickups (EMG for instance) but the A on a P pick up is significantly louder because it passes over both halves of the pick up. Villex said that they would make me a P with blades in it with one coil shorter than the other so as to get a 3+2 thing going on. Unfprtunately by then I had promised to sell my P and could not go back on the deal. I miss it.
