Grand Wazoo
For the month of August only Ernie Ball Music Man has a special ordeing window where you can order any model of basses and guitars (except the Classic series) with a highly figure roasted maple neck, ebony fngerboard, and their limited edition BFR inlay at the 12th fret, only problem is... no choice of body colour as they only offer it in black sugar whatever that is, as per the pic below which you can click on for more details and pics

The roasted maple is lovely isn't it, looks like Guinness settling to me.

JTUK
I like flame or birds-eye on necks and have them on my basses, but that is too much for me.

geoffbyrne
I had a 'bitsa' J a while back. It was a Hohner Professional JJ Jazz with a stained maple body. It had various necks on it. The original was pretty much a 'P' neck which I later replaced with a J, then after that with an unlined 'P'. It passed on to Lemmywinks, whom, I believe, is still using it. Anyway, you can see the depth of grain showing through the dark staining here: G.
4 Strings
Is this 'roasting' an over done way of reducing the curing time for the neck wood? Sounds cheap and cheerful to me, looks great, and so is marketed as a boon. Anyone actually know about this?
