Lord Sausage Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010
there must be a solo that brings you out of that middle ground?
Its not just bass its kinda anything. I think the problem lies in that the first 'solo' i can remember hearing, of any desription, was (guitar solo)'Eruption' by Eddie Van Halen. Just the fire and passion (and the fact it was him just warming up and being recorded, which i found out years later) just blew my head off. And i ain't heard anything of same intensity anywhere on anything since. Quote
bottlebassman Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 J.J's solo in "Genetix" by The Stranglers. Quote

Those bends and vibrato are a complete bugger, especially when you're a puny bassist like myself. Quote
johnnylager Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 (edited) Yup, Cliff innit. Take your pick. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_quer...s+solo&aq=1 Or Brian Fox. Edited July 31, 2010 by johnnylager Quote

Chest Rockwell Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 being a Metalhead, I'll go with Cliff Burton. Most of that other stuff is very 'clever' but either boring as hell (Wilkenfield), or... 'noise' (Sheehan). I am sulking of course, cos I cant play anything like any of then At least Cliff brings the ROCK. Quote
Chris2112 Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 The bass solo at 02:40 in this blows me away...absolutely incredible. And the bass solo in this is jaw-droppingly cool. Incredible fusion...03:40 for this one. Quote
Cat Burrito Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 I don't mind the occasional bass solo. Being a big fan of The Byrds, here's Skip Battin in action Quote

funkypenguin Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 My current favourites would be.... John Patitucci's upright solo in the live GRP big band take of sister sadie (the vid of which has vanished from youtube but check out the recording if you're into jazz, its incredible) Tony Grey's solo in the extended version of summer rain featuring the Hiromi Trio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VL14_nd2C2Q Life Burning by/featuring Matt Garrison http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuH5JRs8Ug0 Quote
