franzbassist
Cross posted this is the technical forum as well, but lised it here as I only got one reply there (thanks Geoff!) -------- So, I'm loving my new PJB M-300 amp, but getting the most out of it, literally, is leaving me slightly perplexed. As you can see, the "Input Level" has -10dB and +10dB marked on it, which means that with the knob set to high noon it's at unity gain. My question is this, is it more important to have this knob at unity gain, and therefore adjust the gain inside my active basses accordingly, or should I make the gain going into the amp from the bass as big as possible and trim the input level on the amp? Happy Jack
The manual says: Just as no two basses are alike, the same goes for players with different styles and technique. This is a fine-tuning adjustment (+/- 10dB) to get the precise match between your instrument and the M-300. Later in the manual, it says: Keep volume down before plugging in your instrument. Use the passive jack for basses without onboard electronics only. Set the input level to match your instrument. When the red light blinks momentarily you are just below clipping (distortion) so back off a little on this control. Keep this control set and then bring up the master volume to about 1/3 up. The EQ circuits should be first flat. What you are hearing now is the exact sound of your bass. Seems pretty straight forward, or am I missing something?
franzbassist
Thanks, and I'm sure you're not missing anything! It was just the unity gain setting that was confusing me.
