danweb22 Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Anyone on here own a Nash bass? How do they compare against the Fender Road Worn? Do they justify the price? General thoughts? Sorry for all the questions! Just being nosey! lol Thanks! Quote

Personally, I love them - I love the look, I love the way they play, and I love the way they sound. I think you'll find divided opinions on the whole 'relic' topic though! For info, the last time I spoke to Mark @ Bass Direct, he was getting 4 Nash P basses into stock... Quote
Davo-London Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 The ones I have played have been excellent. Only tried one road-worn and that was good too. I would go for a Nash if I was buying one. Gotta keep Fender on their toes. Davo Quote

Stacker Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 (edited) I think Bill Nash source parts from various companies. I have Clarky/Cairobill's red JB63 with DiMarzio Ultrajazz in it and it's one of the best basses I've ever played. The necks, beware, are medium C and certainly not vinatge Jazz so be prepared for that. As to the P/T-basses, I can't comment. And although I've just bought a Fender Jazz CS, I'd certainly give the RW a go, but ethey seem to be creeping up in price. Try one then try the NAsh and take it from there. And Clarky, if your reading this - let me know if you ever want to move that other JB63 of yours! Edited August 5, 2010 by Stacker Quote
bh2 Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 They are nice but they are pricey for parts basses. Quote
Cairobill Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 I think Stacker has it on the nose. The Nash bass has an enormous sound. Very thick and meaty, loads of sustain, harmonic colour etc It is one of the best sounding jazzes I have ever owned. The neck was a bit chunky for me though. However, that probably contributes to the almighty tone. They are a serious alternative if you are thinking of going the Custom Shop route. Quote

Cairobill Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Interestingly enough I had a prog evening last night, watching the 'Beyond the Lighted Stage' doc. Geddy Lee appears to be playing a Nash early on in a dressing room scene. The top of the headstock has the nash sharpie date on it and no decal. Quote
JTUK Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 I have heard they are good..but for £1100 or so, they are up against some decent competition. My thinking would be would it retain that sort of value, but that applies to so many things musical, anyway. IMV, there is no way round this but to try it and see how it fits.. Quote
davidak Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Just bought Nash P bass and have to say it is just great. Most "lively" bass I've ever had, don't know if that's because of nitro or some special wood treatment, but it works perfectly. Playability is is superb.. It is worth every penny. Quote

davidak Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 I live in Czech Republic and bought it used internationally from Israel It is nearly impossible to try those toys here.. http://www.nashguitars.com/IMHO.htm here you can read interesting Nash's article about how he works, what wood he uses and what he generally thinks about his instruments. dudi8 Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 i had a nash jbass and a fender road worn, both are beautiful, but if you change the pickups on the road worn to lindy fralin pickups, it will cheaper still than the nash, better sounding (my opinion), and easier to sell in the future of GAS Quote

Clarky Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Crikey that reads really badly. Have to say the Nash 63J's I owned both played and sounded very nice. My only gripes were a cheap-ish tort-substitute s/p and the fact the 'clay dots' were shiny white plastic rather than aged Quote

Stacker Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 The two Nashes I owned had the best sustain of any Jazz I've had, bar the Blade. Guess it's a combo of a good neck/body contact and the slightly fuller neck; the DiMarzios will simply amplify all that. Quote
