nig Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Hi, Just got a used dean EUB, an astonishing instrument for the money I gave and I know its technically not a real upright, but for us mere electric bassists it gets close, especially for the upright mindset and sound. I would like to know your opinion on what strings would suit it best, thanks y'all. Quote
TPJ Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 (edited) Congrats on your new bass. Some say an orchestral strings like Helicores give the EUB a more "authentic" sound. Hard to say until you put them on. Innovations are cheaper and darker sounding than Spiros and also have less tension, but Spiros are steel and will work with both magnetic and piezo pups. Have a read around, there are quite a few that where in your position. Lots of EUB owners who experimented with new strings. Also Talkbass has a whole section dedicated to EUB. Beer of the Bass Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Those are the 35" scale EUBs, right? I'm not sure that most double bass strings will fit, since they'll be made for 40-42" scale length. If you're limited to using bass guitar strings, i'd say Thomastik jazz flats would be worth a go. Quote
nig Posted August 8, 2010 Author Posted August 8, 2010 Thanks, it looks like a standard bass scale, so a set of the above mentined flats it is, I will let you know how they sound, the ones it came with are ok but the E is fairly dead. Quote
