Spoombung
Looking for a fairly hi-fi pokey and portable small cab. I've seen single 12's for sale. Anyone do a single 10"?
Pete Academy
I think Markbass and EBS do.
molan
Bag End 1x10 is a killer cab. We had an impromptu little session last weekend with four different people playing a Genz Shuttle 3.0 through one & it was sitting next to a much larger 1x12 cab. Everyone thought the sound was coming from the 1x12 until I pointed out that I'd wired up the 1x10 instead and the head was simply sitting o top of the 1x12 Cue lots of people checking leads to make sure I wasn't winding them up, lol. The one I have has the Hi-Drive co-ax tweeter but they do one without this as well. They don't actually list these on their site but I have a copy of their price list and both the standard 1x10 & the 1x10 with Hi-Drive are listed as stock items http://www.bassgear.co.uk/products-page/ba...re-ax-hi-drive/
Mr. Foxen
Think BassBod has EA 1x10s. Might be 1x12s.

Musicman20
Ibanez Promethean? You can get just the 1x10. Alec
Possibly the smallest & lightest is the Genz Benz Shuttle 10T cab, available here from BassDirect. Still pricey at £420 delivered, but puts out an outstanding amount of sound, and weighs less than half (16lb compared with the Bag End's 33lb). I've got a pair of TC RH450s, with a Genz Genz NEOX212T as a main speaker but, to be honest, after hearing the STL-10T, I'm almost convinced that I could just about get away with gigging with that alone! It's certainly got all I need for small gigs & practice! The great thing is that, even with my middle-aged weak back, I can go anywhere with bass in one hand, cab in the other, and head in a bag over one shoulder - no problem - single easy trip from the car. In fact, each of the three items is a similar weight, with the bass gigbag possibly now being heavier than the head or the cab! I'd be fascinated to hear their 8" cab... Was very tempted by the Promethean for a home/practice/backup amp, but ended up going this route so that I had the same amp as my stage setup and, although it's cost me double, that's soon forgotten & I'm a happy puppy! eude
I can vouch for the Promethean Range. The little 10" combo I have is incredible considering the sound, so I'd be quietly confident that the 10" extension cab would be just as good, I'm still incredibly and pleasantly surprised by the build quality too! Spoombung
Actually I'm amazed how incredibly expensive some of those above are. The EBS is £500 !!!! Seems a lot for a little speaker and tweeter in a box....

Punchier, clearer, cuts through better & way more projection than the GB. Construction is much more robust & looks bomb-proof (probably where a lot of that weight is coming from). It's also very 'loud' which I'm guessing is due to some sort of high sensitivity. I know bag Ends are generally known for this so I'm assuming they must have carried it through to the new smaller cabs. Obviously what this means in practice is that you can get a lot of volume and projection with a lower powered amp. At home I use it with an SWR 220 which can't be pushing out more than about 150W into 8ohms. I generally have the pre-amp set at about 9 o'clock and the master at 8 o'clock (7 o'clock is 'off'!) and it's still pretty loud!
Phil Starr
You mention pokey and hi-fi. If you mean a flat sound then why not use a PA speaker. They usually handle bass pretty well and often go lower than a bass cab and being produced in large numbers they work out pretty good value for money. I use a 12+horn PA speaker for smaller gigs and if I'm honest it sounds much nicer than my 4x10 + 15. If you go for an active version then the drive units have built in protection so you won't need to worry about blowing anything. Most bands have some sort of PA so its pretty easy to try this out without spending anything up front.

But yes, still blimmin' pricey. Where's the money going? It's a US import for a start, there's a degree of prestige and smoke & mirrors magic built into the price, a quality driver, good design, and a well built cab. One of the keys for me was the light weight of the GB cab. Is it worth it? That depends on the customer and what their priorities are. I gulped at the price, but ultimately am happy with the result. I do agree that the Promethean looks like a fantastic proposition, and was sorely tempted.

hubrad
I ysu the EA CXL 1x10 with concentric horn, sometimes on its own for smaller gigs. Top notch.. feels to weigh as much as the 1x12 version! derrenleepoole
There is also a 10" extension speaker cab for the old Trace Elliot BLX range of combo's, but good luck finding one. There's also the 10" extension cab to the original SWR Working Pro combo's, pre Fender. Again, quite hard to get a hold of. Then there are the Yamaha BB series of cabinets too.
