That's usually my cue to sit up and take notice. :) A little investigation required I think.
"I'll give you twenty-one... twenty-one... twenty-one..."

Ahhhhh. Love it.

If you find that Tilt floats your boat, try The Drift. There's one track that involves someone punching a slab of meat while Scott screams something about Mussolini.

Giblin is one of my favourites! He played on Fish's debut solo album released in 1989. Highlights include:

Back when I was handling Gallien Krueger, I was lucky enough to hang out with John when he had his pad (I say pad.... the grounds were mahooosive) in near Chessington. He is a fantastic guy to talk to, very grounded.

At that time he was resident bassist at Realworld and Abbey Rd. I first got involved with him when he lost his GK Microbass combo off the back of his Harley rinding into town one day.... had to sort out a replacement for him quickly.

Two things I vividly remember about him..... he composed a lot with an Akai MPC500... he really got the best out of it. Also he had this upright bass that had a head of a lion carved into the headstock..... bizarre looking thing.

At that time I also introduced Tech Sound Systems (Tecamp nowadays) into the UK.... and John was fond of a little 1 x 12" combo ( he loves 12" speakers) and also a Tech Paracube combo.... I tried to get him to become an endorsee but he was really stuck on the GK Microbass.

IIRC WTTC was Mo Foster, Roy Babbington, and the cream of the british session scene.

There we go:

Drums:Pete Van Hook/Simon Phillips/Barry De Souza
Bass:Mo Foster/Roy Babbington
Guitar:Ray Russell/Mike Paxman
Keyboards:Chris Parren/Paul Hart
Percussion:Morris Pert/John Punter/Mike Paxman
Soprano Sax:Ray Warleigh
String Arrangements:Paul Buckmaster
Brass Arrangements:Ray Russell
Tabla:Kesh Satche
Orchestra leader:Gavin Wright/Richard Studt
Piano notes:Steve Nye

Great album. I took a lot from the bass playing on that, harmonics, fretless etc.
Had my Aria TSB550N defretted because of it.
Another £60 for Jimmy Moon :)

I thought John was probably the wrong choice for replacing Derek Forbes in Simple Minds during 1985 as his playing was a little more technical? Forbes was all about power and rolling Fender P bass lines John a little more subtle?

Also Kate Bush can pick her bassists she also used Youth (Killingjoke) and Mick Karn

Charles Mingus had one of them, too.
Which kind of suited his temperament, I think.
He didn't play on the first Kate Bush album either. On "Wuthering Heights" it's probably David Paton.
I just found out that the album Producer 'Andrew Powell' actually wrote AND played the bass part on 'Wuthering Heights', much to David Paton's chagrin....

I think John Giblin is very underrated. There are no clips of his fretless playing on youtube that I know of. I would love to see it.
Grace and Danger is my all time favourite 'fretless' album.
Anyone know what John Giblin is doing lately? there is not much info on the internet about him.
Did he play fretless on any albums for say the last ten years?

That's not John Giblin, it's Alan Thompson.
Not sure what the bass is, but he's been using them for decades now.

I know see you are right and that the first poster made the same mistake! Sounds exactly like John Giblin on the Grace and Danger album. He even looks like him (although it is hard to see on that video).
I think John Giblin is using a Wal fretless on that album? Did he also play that Wal on Babooshka and Breathing by Kate Bush?

Still interested to find out what bass is used by Alan Thompson in that video. Sounds great!
