Le Chat Noir Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I'm looking for something specific for a custom project I'm engaged in. Without going into the whys or wherefores, suffice to say I wish to route the output of two individual strings to a separate jack, or perhaps even a jack for each string. Something like the pickups on a Fender Mustang might work for capturing the two strings together, but ideally I'd like individual pickups for each string! I've found a couple of makers of individual string pickups on the net, but one was from a strange Japanese company and the other is a guy in America whose shop is closed for now due to flooding in Nashville! Aftermarket Mustang bass pickups are also seemingly impossible to find. Anyone have any suggestions for somewhere I can get one/two-string pickups, preferrably here in the UK? Cheers! Teddy Quote
hillbilly deluxe Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I have this with 4 pickups, which could be wired to 4 jacks. They are Danelectro type lipstick pickups. Quote
velvetkevorkian Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 You can do this with piezo bridges, and something like the RMC fanout box. Quote
Lfalex v1.1 Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 If it comes to the crunch, make your own? There must be masses of info on the net. Assuming you've got the time to experiment... Quote
Ou7shined Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 You could split the individual parts of a P pickup and lay them transversally so that each string takes 2 poles. Quote
Le Chat Noir Posted August 8, 2010 Author Posted August 8, 2010 Thanks for your responses so far guys! I have considered piezo saddles, seems like a good option if they actually sound good, has anyone actually used any of the piezo saddle systems? Thoughts? I have no idea about making my own pickups, wish I did - that'd be an interesting and fun option! Quote

They kind of need a high impedance to work properly so a buffer is necessary, if you want individual, then you need a buffer for each. EddieG Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Not in the UK, but http://www.syncobass.com do single string pickups. Quote

Those are pretty much just what I'm looking for. Anything like this in the UK, or should I just plump for these? Quote
Colledge Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 roland make single string pickups for use with their midi system... but i'm sure it could be modified to be used normally. downside is.... its over £100 each link Quote
Le Chat Noir Posted August 8, 2010 Author Posted August 8, 2010 (edited) I'm actually thinking more about piezo saddles as an option now actually - one added bonus is proper separation, which I won't necessarily get with magnetic pickups. Note separation is quite important for the purposes I have in mind. What would be the easiest way for me to get just my lowest two strings piezo'd? Edited August 8, 2010 by Le Chat Noir Quote

Metalmoore Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Maybe ask Andy over at wizard pickups, im sure i read somewhere that he has made some pretty odd pickups in the past. Would be custom work though, dont know how much it would cost... Quote

Le Chat Noir Posted August 9, 2010 Author Posted August 9, 2010 I'm not sure I'd be confident winding my own to be honest! If I don't go the piezo route, I found these which also look interesting and are reasonably priced... BigRedX Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Unfortunately the Atlansia single pickups are no longer available as spare parts. Quote
Le Chat Noir Posted August 10, 2010 Author Posted August 10, 2010 I bit the bullet and ordered Ted Crocker's Stonehenge pickups, will let you all know how it goes! Quote
