Gana
Hi there Basschat, I hope you can help a new guy like me in the forums. If you do, I'll sure stick around for long! About half a year ago a friend of mine who knew I was a bassist sold me this bass for a very small fee (he had other 5 basses and wanted the money for a new pedal). The thing is, the bass is custom built but not for him, as he bought it from another guy. The only thing he knows about the bass, aside from a great sound, is that the wood is really good (Brazilian wood, if that even exists :S ). I don't even know the name of the pickups. I've talked to some luthiers in my area and they all say this is clearly a Brazilian made bass, but it is unlikely that this bass traveled from Brazil to Portugal (we think it was built here in Portugal by a Brazilian luthier, but the most famous one already said to me he didn't do it). It's a passive bass and has 4 tone knobs, it has a beautiful fanned-fretboard, it's neck-trough and the guy who made the bass setup after I bought it said the bass intonation was nearly perfect. I didn't ask him anything else, but he said the bass was worth about 575£ (900$, 700€), but I'm guessing I will have trouble selling the bass for this value. I recently quit my part-time job to focus on my engineering course, so I'm selling the bass to keep my finances stable for a while. Can any of you identify good aspects about the bass (like the fingerboard material, etc) so I can advertise it in my country? Thank you very much! yorick
Have a look inside the control cavity. The underside of the cover may have a maker's mark on there. I can't see any other markings on the bass. Looks a bargain for the price of a pedal....

[/quote] It really was, and it was like an investment, because the bass was not in a very good shape, and now after it has been properly set up, I'm trying to sell it for its real value, or a little under the value. I've checked the inside and it really has nothing, no name, no identifiable mark, nothing. The only thing that's identifiable is a really really erased "Roberto" (it's a common brazilian and portuguese name) in the front. But the only known Roberto luthier in Portugal already told me he didn't make this bass!
