Fender Deluxe pre-amp replacement

Hey guys.

I have a Fender Deluxe USA V jazz bass.

Its completely stock with the 18Volt fender pre-amp and noiseless pickups.

I like a really grindy growly clanky brutal tone.

What pre-amp should i be getting? I like the idea of a drop in pre-amp like a J-Retro or East. But i doubt it will give me what i want. Whatever it is, must be able to run on a 18Volts, preferably with a passive mode.

I know it can't go passive but what about a set of EMG's and an Aguilar? 9V each. I reckon that would sound awesome.
