Quick update:

I have not fitted the Roland GK unit into the bass itself, which is much neater than having the 'brain' clamped to the body.

Here are the pics - this bass is now literally the best thing ever and although I was pretty scared about cutting some holes into it for the new outputs (on the side of the body) I feel that we are now closer than ever!

Specs:
Vigier Passion, 1988, graphite semi-thru neck 34" scale
Pickups: 2x Basstec humbucking pickups, 1x Roland pickup
Marleaux 3 band EQ and passive mode
Roland GK 13 pin MIDI compatible with assignable control
Elixir 40-95 superlight strings

Thanks mate yeah it really is just right now - what always bothered me about the previous solution (having the 'brain' clamped to the back of the bass) was that it meant the bass wouldn't fit into its original semi soft zipcase. Now it does!

A bonus pic, just for you!

Cheers Gary, very kind. This bass is wasted in my hands. But I'll never lose it!!!

Oh and I always play in D - I like the lower tension and the extra notes. I also find it more comfortable octave shape wise. With my pathetically light womanly touch on the strings it also means that the lower tension responds to variations in touch more than a higher tension string. I can get a real 'digging in' sound by playing a tiny bit harder than normal.

I'm trying Rotosound Nexus strings on the Vigier, they look amazing and feel nice but quite different to the Elixirs I'm used to. Time will tell how they fare because a set of Elixirs stay bright for over a year for me which is nice.

This is still very much my main bass and I can't see it ever losing top spot. I have recently had an addition to the stable which I'll show later.
Just finished a phone call to Roland UK - I'm going to install the 'up' and 'down' buttons so that I can switch between patches. There's two small push buttons to facilitate this which will go in between the stacked bass/treble and magnetic pickup pan. A friendly BCer has offered to help me with the circuitry, too.

Looking forward to it... will post pics when the bits arrive (approx 3 weeks from Japan, apparently!)

I know some will say it's not great to customise the bass too much but realistically this is MY bass and I'm not selling it for anything, so this little customisation is something I have been thinking about having used the same setup for a few years now, and having realised the Vbass is a really essential piece of kit in my setup.

Cheers
Alright, the bits are on their way but I also have some 'momentary' buttons here which I might use (depending on what the Roland ones are like)

I'm thinking I'll put them here roughly, bearing in mind how much space there is inside the cavity

its all about the dymo label.

Switch position looks about right to me.

I love Dymo labels!!

Yeah it's hard to put them in line with any other knobs because nothing lines up but they look quite neat like this and are in a nice position for adjusting in the fly. Looking forward to having it all set up!

Just found a guitar tech in York who is going to convert my stacked treble/bass control to two separate controls. I've got two mini knobs to use that match the existing ones.

By the way, if you're in the market for some control knobs use this place, amazing selection and they arrived (from the USA) within two days
