Tonight our band is playing at the local naturist camp :) at Cap d'Agde on the south-east French coast. The venue is a bar at a naturist camp site. Cap d'Agde is well-known for it's naturist facilities and attracts people from all over Europe, especially Germans.

I'm guessing that concentrating on playing the bass might be difficult when confronted with a naked/semi-naked audience. To answer the most obvious question, no, I will not be hiding naked behind my bass as I expect to be dressed, as will the rest of the band.

On the lawns at Tonbridge castle - as a background band during one of those mock medieval battles where loads of hairy geezers dress up in chainmail and try to hack each other to death.

The nudist gig will be horrible. You just know the audience will all be saggy 50 year olds who really should keep their clothes on... :)

You do realise that this is also a swingers venue and not just "lifestyle" naturists?

Damn right. Although from what I've seen on telly, naturists are very often either emaciated lunatics or sagging wolfhounds.

I have been forewarned - fortunately, we're playing to the early evening, pre-dinner crowd before the night really gets going. Apparently things get quite fruity :) later on in the evening. However, we're staying on to eat afterwards, so I might see some sights... I'll be avoiding the darkened rooms at the back of the bars/clubs, as well as not venturing out into the dunes after nightfall. I'm not ready to swing.

Photos will be available if at all possible!

Just sling your bass low and away you go :)

We played a Skinhead pub in Brockworth. Not a strange location on the surface but we were a Glam / Sleaze act and as such the locals took objection to us - they did a "carry to the car" service with our gear and even escorted us out of the village. I must have looked tired because at one point a local "passed" me a bar stool whilst we were playing!

A Wedding Reception at a hotel in Gretna Green. :)

I was totally convinced it was a wind up all the time the date was in the dairy (over a year!!), but it turned out to be completely genuine and a damn good gig to boot.

We met the bride and groom after the first set and the Bride Groom explained that it had always been his dream to marry a beautiful girl and have a top soul band play at his wedding reception.

I said "Well, one out of two ain't bad."

I think he may have misunderstood what I meant.  :o

In my years as a front man in the early 90s, I did a gig on the back of a truck in a quarry near Bremen in Germany.

We were one of about 6 bands playing a mini festival, on a very cold, damp day. We were also the novelty foriegn band amongst a bunch of local bands, so we had a decent drowd watching us, but it was weird being surrounded by this old quarry, and it poured with rain most of the day.

U2 at Red Rock Canyon it was not.

I've done a cave too! I used to be in a choir and the sound we got in there was incredible. It was in Devon somewhere. It was called the Witches Cauldron or something?

Played a gig in the main office of the Radar Station on the top Of Mount Kent in the Falklands. They had to move all the computer desks to one side.
If that wasn't particularly unusual in itself, the drive up and down the mountain certainly was :)

Recorded part of a video in the hairdresser, then performed a gig... I was on drums for this one though does that still count :-)

I think the outfits were the strangest bits though

In a church (next to the altar) as part of local 'music festival'.
At a Medieval jousting tournament (last week!)
In Paris at the European Balloon Sculpturing Awards.
On airport runway in front of 747 jet.
Floating on a pontoon in a city dock (promoting another music festival!)
In a barn (used for expectant sheep) in Scotland, where the booker had sprinkled Birds Custard powder(?!!) on the 'dancefloor'
in an attempt to get rid of the smell of sheep sh*t! Needless to say did n't work, not many dancing punters etc.

Just got back from this area, one of our friends almost accidently booked us on to that exact camp site! That would have been just awful.

Weirdest gig was on the Mersey Ferry. It was awful, I was hung over and it was a particularly choppy night on the river. It was like getting re-pissed but without the alcohol, people were toppling over our monitors and it was all in all a horrendous night.

It's the Anglican. That sounds like a great place to play, did you not enjoy it?
